Obama gave his speech on race today. Judging from the rapturous reception here on DailyKos, Obama supporters thought he hit it out of the park.
But I have some questions for you Obama supporters.
Obama has no real experience, right? The rationale for voting for him is he represents Hope and Change and national healing, where Republicans won't be demonized as Nazi's, and they will fall in line to happily vote for progressive policies because of Obama's sheer magnetism, I suppose. We vote for Obama on character, because he's honest as the day is long and a new kind of politician. And some people vote for him because he's black.
So, Obama = hope, healing, character, judgment. That's why we vote for him. A new kind of politician. One I can trust.
So why do we see Obama lying all the time? In the Rezko trial, we find out for the second time that Rezko contributed more to his campaign than Obama let on before. Did that just slip through the cracks, or did Obama lie? Obama admits he didn't have great judgment on that one. Isn't that why we should elect him-- his judgment? What about the NAFTA thing--is that more lies?
Now, with the big speech on race. What did Obama admit to-- he has personally heard some of the inflammatory rhetoric:
For some, nagging questions remain. Did I know him to be an occasionally fierce critic of American domestic and foreign policy? Of course. Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes.
Here, he flat out admits he heard it--directly contradicting his HuffPo statement. Obama lied to everyone. So much for being a "different politician." Is he lying about whether he holds those same black liberation, "the white man is evil and to blame" theology? His wife certainly seems to--how do we know he doesn't?
Now, we find out he isn't repudiating the black liberation theology--he accepts it, or agrees with it to some degree. How is that going to heal the country? Does he honestly think he can get elected by telling every white person that everything is their fault and the black man has been put down? That it's my fault as a white person some black kid in Newark got shot by another black kid? Progressives may think so, but that won't fly in Oklahoma City.
Where is Obama's judgment in hanging around with Pastor Wright for 20 years? If his instinct is that the worlds problems are America's fault entirely, how will someone who actually has pride in their country feel like they can trust his judgment? Where was his judgment in bringing his daughters to listen to a man he thought was preaching bad stuff?
I'm no Hillary supporter, btw. But I don't think having Obama telling me how grateful I should be to answer to Pastor Wrights views and I should just cheerfully accept how I'm innately evil because of my skin color is exactly a message of healing.
Because one thing is clear from Obama's speech on race: he accepts Wright's views that whitey done the black man down.
