At this point in the war approximately 1.3 million servicemembers have completed tours in Iraq.
PTSD rates are up, suicide rates are up, the number of homeless veterans is on the rise and as of yet neither Barack Obama nor Hillary Clinton have laid out a plan to address these issues.
While there are no easy fixes for individuals with PTSD and mental health problems there are easy fixes for the system that is supposed to serve them.
We need more money to provide mental health services for vets. There has to be a way for off-base care to reach veterans so that they are not dependent upon their commands for help. For reservists off active duty there must be full medical coverage for anyone diagnosed with PTSD or combat related injuries for the rest of their lives.
We need money to hire trained professionals to get out on the streets to interview the homeless and bring vets to shelters where they can get treatment specific to their needs.
In addition to money lets talk justice.
Nancy Pelosi has shown her true colors, that of a cowardly politician not a leader by taking impeachment off the table. The administration sent people over to Iraq on false pretenses and then enabled their cronies and donors to reap huge profits. A full investigation into the administration for getting us into this war and into those that have unjustly profited from it is in order. Investigate, prosecute and incarcerate those who have profited at the expense of our young people.
The Bush administration has abandoned the props it used for photo ops like human garbage. Its time to take them to account.
