Since before receiving the nomination, John McCain was being tapped as a different kind of Republican - one who was moderately conservative and perhaps an alternative for those Dems who are fed up with Obama and Clinton or the perfect candidate for independents who don't align with either party. But as we are quickly finding out, John McCain is not moderate or a maverick - especially with regards to women's issue. Especially with regards to women's reproductive rights, John McCain is clearly the worst kind of Republican.
According to NARAL Pro-Choice America's latest online petition, John McCain is:
* Voted anti-choice 125 out of 130 times in his congressional career.
* Consistently voted to restrict access to abortion care.
* Voted against measures to prevent unintended pregnancy.
* Voted for the global gag rule, which prohibits federally funded family-planning clinics from giving women full information about their reproductive-health options.
* Voted for and co-sponsored the Federal Abortion Ban.
* Voted in favor of anti-choice Supreme Court Justices like Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas and Chief Justices like John Roberts.
Clearly, John McCain is not at different kind of Republican. He's just more of the same, and if he is elected, he, like other Republicans (especially George Bush) will continue to chip away at women's rights.
