My goodness gracious me. I never expected that it would even come to this. Pushing a sure thing into doubt, making McCain look better with every day we pass. Well, ok, maybe allowing him more time in the stasis chamber to slow his aging...
The main problem is that we are confronted with two good choices for our nominee, two different paths to victory. One wishes to take us the way we have always gone, using convention to push swing states and hold the big ones steadfast. It has worked in the past, in fact, it worked with the only democratic president during my lifetime.
The other road to victory is a little more mysterious. It involves reliance on a whole lot of factors that people haven't considered before. Primarily, the goodness and intelligence of the American people. It doesn't involve ads that offer ominous audio and dubious video. And in doing so, it tacitly assumes that people will not fall for those tactics. By leaving out large corporate donors, it relies on the generosity of a larger population.
What I am trying to say is this:
Every single day, the Clinton camp gets closer to McCain. Whether it's Hillary saying that she and McCain have passed "the CIC threshold," or Bill hoping for an election between his wife and McCain because they are "two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interests of this country," the circles on McCain and Clinton have begun to overlap far to much for my taste.
Obama is different. Period. So are the problems we're facing.
I have been laid off, I am broke. One of my best friends is in Iraq, flying a helicopter. Both of us knew this war was bullshit from the start, but he was already in. The nine bucks in my wallet are worth less and less everyday and I've been riding my bicycle because I can't afford to fix my car and couldn't afford to put gas in it even if I did. I support Obama. I'm not black. I didn't go to a university. I don't even like coffee.
Obama is the one who is different enough to actually make something happen. The problems we face today are more complex than they have every been in the past, and Obama's neo-dem thinking might just save the day. If not, we're all fucked. Or at least I am. Clinton might be the one who has "experience," but Obama is that crazy motherfucker who walks in right when shit hits the fan and says, "wait, guys, I got this." And you can call me a moron... but I believe him.
Look at the dichotomy. Who is in their own circle?
