Bob Cesna over at the Huffington Post has put together a nice video about "The Tide Is Turning":
He echoes what I had been hoping - that the Wright controversary will be a blessing instead of a curse...
that it gave Barack Obama an opportunity to demonstrate real Presidentital leadership instead of the usual political soundbites and platitudes.
Sure the Wright comments playing on You Tube was a real threat to Obama's candidacy and Barack Obama needed to respond to this serious threat under fire. He did. He did it in a calm rational bluntly honest fashion - not only did he NOT throw his pastor under the bus which would have been so convenient, but he used this as an opportunity to address a serious problem our nation has faced since it's founding, a problem that has tarnished our nation's history and the ideals it was founded on.
There will remain overt and latent racists who will use this to oppose Barack Obama. There will be political opponents who will use this to their advantage.
But I hope most Americans of good faith see this for what it is - cheap political shots to tear down a good man who seeks to unify this country in a new kind of politics where we can work together to solve our nation's problems rather then look for ways to divide this country for one-sided political advanatage.
