I heard this report on NPR Morning Edition this morning and I couldn't believe it so I had to look up the story again. If you wonder why people are outraged at this country then you weren't paying attention when Katrina hit. Now this. Un-effen-believable!
Yesterday two former Black Panthers were transferred into a maximum security dormitory in Baton Rouge, LA after being held in solitary confinement for 36 years! Yes, that's right--36 years! 36 years of only one hour of daylight a day. 36 years of spending 23 hours a day in a cramped little cell without human contact. 36 YEARS of being locked away like an unwanted animal. Did you see Shawshank Redemption? Andy Defresne spent only 30 days in stir. But even worse than the horror of that inhuman punishment is the fact that they may have actually been wrongly convicted.
You can read about it here or listen to the NPR story here but be prepared because you may be tempted to scream "god damn America" for treating any one of its citizens, whether guilty or innocent, to such cruel and unusual punishment!
So the next time someone has the audacity to ask why Rev Wright is so angry tell them about this.
