This is an update regarding the ongoing controversy regarding Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern's inflamatory anti-gay hate speech
I heard news that right-wing groups were organizing a pro-gay-hate rally in support of Rep. Sally Kern this week (more info here and here, so I started digging around a little bit online and guess what I found. . .
I know you probably think this is some kind of corny satirical creation, but no, it is the real bonafide thing. The AFA actually has made a film called "They're Coming to your Town." (it reminds me of some 50's sci-fi movie like, "The Martians are coming")
Also they have a trailer for the film that is online, which frankly is even more ridiculously corny than their movie cover graphic. You can click here to watch the trailer, it about 1 minute long
What is even more interesting to me is that Rep. Sally Kern referenced the supposed "gay takeover" of Eureka Springs in her notorious hate speech. Listen again to what Sally Kern said and then read this tidbit from the AFA website...
Residents of the small Arkansas town of Eureka Springs noticed the homosexual community was growing. But they felt no threat. They went about their business as usual. Then, one day, they woke up to discover that their beloved Eureka Springs, a community which was known far and wide as a center for Christian entertainment--had changed. The City Council had been taken over by a small group of homosexual activists.
The Eureka Springs they knew is gone. It is now a national hub for homosexuals. Eureka Springs is becoming the San Francisco of Arkansas. The story of how this happened is told in the new AFA DVD "They’re Coming To Your Town."
So the mystery is solved. Rep. Kern is not only a bigot, but she is an unoriginal bigot who rips off her speech ideas almost verbatim from freaky cheesy scary movies.
