Suddenly we matter
Indiana will have at least 12 superdelegates to the Democratic Convention in Denver, 11 of whom have been named.
Two have committed to Obama:
Connie Thurman, a political representative for the United Auto Workers who also is a superdelegate because she's a Democratic National Committee member, recently committed to Obama and plans to stick with him.
Cordelia Lewis-Burks, the vice chairwoman of the state Democratic party, is supporting Barack Obama.
Five others - Evan Bayh plus 4 members of the DNC - made early commitments to the Clintons, presumably following the lead of Evan Bayh, widely rumored to be on Hillary's short list for VP.
Four more remain uncommitted and the 12th delegate has yet to be named.
In October 2007 many Indiana Democratic Leaders Endorse Clinton, so, Indiana's Democratic machine came out early in favor of Hillary.
However, much has changed since October and the popular interest in Obama is intense.
A look at Indiana's Democratic superdelegates
Congressmen Joe Donnelly, Brad Ellsworth, Baron Hill and Pete Visclosky are undecided;
Three of these 4 delegates - Donnelly, Ellsworth and Hill - are Freshmen in the House, having won tight races in 2006 with the support of the DNC and many in the netroots.
Rep. Joe Donnelly, D-South Bend, is one of the superdelegates who is uncommitted, and he plans to stay that way until at least after the primary.
"Our voice is going to be heard this election, and we're going to have a say. The best part is these candidates are going to have to come to our state and they're going to have to talk to us about our issues. . . . It doesn't get any better than looking these candidates in the eye and asking them what they think."
Here's our opportunity to make a difference. Please let these congressmen know where you stand!
Joe Donnelly - 2nd District
Brad Ellsworth - 8th District
Barron Hill - 9th District
Pete Visclosky - 1st District
**UPDATE**
Please see synchronicityii's excellent comment about the add-on delegates and how they work. Indiana will get at least one more add-on delegate.
