Let me introduce y’all to a word I have never seen on Dkos: TRUCE.
I was born in southern Arizona, where the legends of Apaches and US troops are abundant. But so was the word truce. You can look up the dictionary meaning if you want, but my fellows and I just took it to mean "Wait a second".
I recall nights down on Speedway Blvd in Tucson where that one word prevented a fight, and maybe much worse. It’s a beautiful word, ‘cause it doesn’t imply surrender, it doesn’t imply victory, it just implies "okay, I'll agree to think about this a little (asshole)".
Well, as with most things, people walk away when the fists (or tire irons, or chains) don't fly, and the situation is usually (and I stress usually) less dire the next day (if one could even remember the source of the outrage).
So when your comment thread degenerates to the nth degree of indentation, declare a TRUCE, and come back tomorrow.
