"It is all over people. We haven't got a prayer!." - Reverend Lovejoy, The Simpsons.
We have lost. Obama v. Hillary has deteriorated into a ludicrous mudslinging contest centered on personality and background and the chance to draw the electorate into a debate on the war has been lost. And Obama v. Hillary will go on and on, for another month at least. Obama will probably win the nomination, but with a fatal DLC knife in his back...
Then...we get...
President McCain, and the traditional year-long "honeymoon" (i.e. exemption from criticism in the corporate press) for the new Prez as the Democratic congress bends to his will.
McCain will certainly launch a war with Iran, the prospect of which even now makes him burst into joyful song.
We will then get in short order following: intensified war with Iraq (the 100 years' project), a cold war with Russia and China, dollar collapse as our debt and imperialism finally piss off the economic elite in Saudi Arabia, China, and Russia, an economic depression as the cumulative effects of outsourcing, dollar collapse, and oil shortages set in, the inevitable terrorist retaliation on our dear Homeland, further deterioration of civil liberties and an intensifed surveillance society, the neocons triumphant. An unlivable country.
It feels fated, like a Greek tragedy, starring the goddess Nemesis.
I would pay 100 grand for a Canadian passport or maybe New Zealand...a quiet life beyond the reach of the horrors of 2009-2011.
