Was reading through the morning's news across the net, working through my internal list of reasons HRC's still in the race:
- she's a fighter, and won't quit till finished off for good (and more power to her; i like that quality).
- she thinks she can win (she obviously has a fuzzy connection with reality, so i can see her believing this a few hours per day).
- she's in debt!
then a couple of key pieces fell into place in my thinking!! it's all about the money. just follow the money... (more after the fold)
I read this piece this story by Robert D. Novak about Mark Penn and the Clinton Campaign. By some accounts, the HRC campaign owes Penn and his murky network of firms upwards of $10M.
The primary reason Mark Penn wants to campaign to continue is because he wants his money! Every day the campaign rolls on, people donate money. He's got his eye on every dollar that comes in and he'll make sure to get as many of every hundred pennies as possible.
The Clinton campaign owes money all over, to small vendors, mid-sized firms, mom & pop stores, and Mark Penn. It's 100% in Mark Penn's interest to foment the notion that the Campaign Must Go On. I can just hear his exhortations to Hillary: "You're Not a Quitter", "Clinton's are Winners", and to himself, I Want my Money!
Do i know this from first hand experience? No. I'm drawing inferences. But if i were thinking of donating to the Clinton Campaign, i would think twice: how much of my dollar would simply go to paying off last month's debt to Mark Penn? Is that the best thing i can do with my cash? Is it really worth it any longer??
If you're thinking of donating to the Clinton Campaign, remember Mark Penn, and his $10 million dollar black hole.
