I am not prone to flights of paranoia. As a matter of fact, much of my life I have viewed conspiratorial theorists with skepticism and amusement. However, the events of the past seventy-two hours have convinced me that there is more to the whole "Bittergate" episode than meet the eye, and I find myself wondering exactly why we aren't asking ourselves the obvious question!
I doubt that Wolfson and Penn spent all bloody weekend rushing to get those ads together. This whole assault has been in the works for some time. And that whole bloody "macaca gotcha" was a classic dirty trick. HRC can't say the words "San Francisco" often enough lately when bemoaning her disappointment.
Come on, people! Where is our moral outrage? Some sick and calculating bastard from either the Republican war machine or the Clinton war room (and they're rapidly becoming interchangeable) dogged Senator Obama at a targeted political event in exactly the right circumstances (closed to the public, big pocketed liberal donors), spent a week parsing every effing word of a surreptitiously-obtained tape recording, found the one clumsy sentence which could be customized to fit the volatile political milieu of Pennsylvania, then proceeded to dump it on a Friday night on all the wire services and spoon fed "umbrage" pieces to Ben Smith, Jim VanDeHei and John Harris...all reliable funnels.
Isn't it ironic that HRCs war room was the only organization ready to pounce on this "breaking news" on Friday? Have they exhibited this degree of competency at any other time in the whole bloody campaign?
No, goddamn it! I suppose politics is politics and we should expect really creepy, underhanded and cheap stunts like this. But let's call it what it is! It was a SET-UP!
If you want the party represented by some Machiavellian, soulless, ruthless liar who will do absolutely anything to get elected, then go ahead and join HRC in her "disappointment" fest. However, call it for what it is.
The thing that angers me the absolute most is that McCain, at least, is transparent in saying how much he'd rather run against Hillary because he knows he can beat her. Hillary, on the other hand, maintains that she is doing poor deluded souls like me a favor by showing us Senator Obama can't win. She's fighting to lift us up...
Yea. Right.
Don't piss on my feet and tell me it's raining!
You ain't seen bitterness yet, Hillary.
