Every day, I make the drive to school. It takes about 35 minutes, maybe 40 if there's traffic or rain. It's not a stressful drive. In fact, it's pretty. I sometimes forget to look at the scenery as it flies by, but recently, I've really been watching the changing of the world of nature that is outside my car window. It's a hell of a lot more beautiful than the changing of the world of humans in recent years.
I'm a huge winter fan, I confess. I love snow and ice, especially when the trees are white and the sky is a bit gray. But spring has its own special allure.
There are no leaves on the trees yet. But in the morning, at 7:00 am, the maples and oaks and ash trees seem to glow red. I know it's the coming of the leaves and I am looking forward to seeing the soft, green shimmer of new leaves as they begin to open onto the world. I can't really describe what that green color really means to me. There is something so reassuring about it. I anticipate it, I expect it, and I know that I will see it soon.
So, tomorrow when you go for a walk, or drive to work or spend the day around the house doing whatever you need/want to do. Take a moment to look out at the world and enjoy the view. But also remember that we all have a part to play to ensure that the view remains green, healthy, whole. We're all caretakers of that view. Every little bit helps to make sure that those who come after us will enjoy that view as well.
