If you look at the classic definition of treason, it is defined as :
Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies
But for the purpose of this diary and to look at the "mainstream media" or as those that are on the "radical right" side of the radio dial call it, the "liberal media".
I would prefer to administer the 2nd definition of treason to the MSM which is simply :
A betrayal of trust or confidence
As you and I have watched this election cycle evolve, we have seen the news media focus on issues that have nothing to do with the issues. No wonder when asked, no majority of voters for any candidate can explain why they support a particular candidate. The news media and talk show hosts then criticize voters for their choices because they say we are uninformed.
But why are we uniformed news media ? Could it be that instead of focusing on informing the populous, you prefer to give us "brain pablum" like Rev. Wright, Bosnia, John Edwards and his "Breck girl hair", the importance of wearing a lapel pin, even though those criticizing someone else for not wearing a lapel pin are not wearing a lapel pin, the comments about Americans being "bitter", and my favorite so far the lack of coverage of this MSM about the release of John Yoo's torture memo.
You have to ask yourself, why does the media want you to focus on the adolescent, sophomoric, tabloid pablum instead of covering the issues that matter to middle Americans.
Why is it so hard for them to get through their "elitist" thick skulls that there are a lot of Americans that are hurting and don't have jobs, can't pay all of their mortgage, can't completely fill their tank all the way to "F" week to week due to the high gas prices and see their jobs leaving ? If these Americans aren't "bitter", then are they what angry, frustrated ? You tell us MSM. When 75% of the nation feels this country is headed in the wrong direction and you think the adjective that should be attached to this is more jovial than "bitter", we have a problem.
I for one got a charge out of the so-called recent Democratic debate when Charlie Gibson got crazed about his "captial gain tax". To the average person, his capital gains conversation meant nothing and to my utter surprise he was wrong. heh
Summary: During the April 16 Democratic presidential debate, Charles Gibson asserted of capital-gains tax cuts that "in each instance, when the rate dropped, revenues from the tax increased. The government took in more money. And in the 1980s, when the tax was increased to 28 percent, the revenues went down." In fact, economists dispute Gibson's assertion. Moreover, looking forward, the Joint Committee on Taxation estimated that the 2006 extension of the 2003 cuts on capital-gains taxes would result in decreased revenues over 10 years.
link at media matters
So the most info we received out of this last debate was on capital gains. We spent the first hour of the debate over tabloid fodder and what was everyone talking about the next day ? How much ABC sucked.
What did we hear about the candidates positions on the issues ?
Nothing.
If the average person on the street were asked today where their candidiate stood on :
Abortion
Budget & Economy
Civil Rights
Corporations
Crime
Drugs
Education
Energy & Oil
Environment
Families & Children
Foreign Policy
Free Trade Government Reform
Gun Control
Health Care
Homeland Security
Immigration
Infrastructure & Technology
Jobs
Principles & Values
Social Security
Tax Reform
War & Peace
Welfare & Poverty
Would they be able to answer ? This is the true job of the media. To get to the issues that matter to us so we can make decisions based on these things. Not what an assoiciate did of a candidate 40 yrs. ago, not if they wear a lapel pin etc.. This is all distraction in my opinion to protect the money making machine that is our government. Not for the average Joe or Jill, but for the real elitists, the folks that Bush calls his base. Remember :
"This is an impressive crowd - the haves and the have-mores," quipped the GOP standard-bearer. "Some people call you the elites; I call you my base."
So let's not get thrown off track here. There are a lot of companies making a lot of money off of the Iraq war, from Haliburton to Blackwater, you have WAL*Mart with 700 factories in China and none in it's home nation as just examples.
You have General Electric, Westinghouse,Viacom, Disney, Time Warner, and News Corp. all with their eyes on their bottom lines and not on your bottom line. Their interest is access to and donating to the person that will meet their interests and their needs.
To get back to my reason for this diary. Treason my friends is being committed for the all mighty dollar, keeping the populous uniformed while the MSM watches their bottom line and the people they have access to happy.
Why did they jump on the Obama "bitter" comment so fast and furious and why does the more they talk about it, the more he seems to surge in the polls ? Because he is right and the MSM fears and knows they are wrong so they saturate the media with this bad mind control tactic stating that these middle Americans are offended. No they aren't offended. They agree and meanwhile Hillary showed how out of touch she is by agreeing with McCain.
I really do think, the powers that be fear this guy named Obama for he is a common man, with the story of the American dream and he has given millions the "audacity to hope".
I think Barack has the powerful and connected really taking notice. Here is a guy whose message has hit home with millions of voters of all races, creeds, and backgrounds. The power base is seriously trying to take him down. This includes all of the aforementioned and the democratic party's establishment. He is not part of the"Doug Coe" crowd. He is one of us, he is not an insider.
The person that speaks "truth to power" is oft targeted. Lest we forget JFK, RFK, and MLK. Good thing Barack's last name begins with an "O".
Continue the pressure on the media as I have. One thing "power" hates is a vocal majority and a populous that will vote for our own pocketbooks as opposed to theirs.
Treason is what the news media is doing and our job is to hold them to account and elect Barack Obama as the next president and ensure he has phalanx of secret service that this country has ever seen.
This is the end of the "Gerber"-American whom lives the "Disneyland" narrative. Quit being distracted by the bullcrap and vote your wallet this time. The media and the powers that be want you to support the media's treason.
And finally, has anyone seen Osama Bin-Laden ???
Gerber-American defined - citizen of the United States that does no research, apatheic, unintelectual, lazy and is spoon-fed info and takes it on its face. In essence, your average "FAUX" news consumer.
Disneyland narrative - believing in fantasy versus reality, i.e. "they hate us for our freedom." yeah okay...
The media's job is to inform us when it comes to the issues, not to distract us with BS.
