...this primary season is past it's expiration date.
It's like an infinite loop with no escape.
It's like listening to a little kid sing one line of a lame song over and over on a long hot road trip you didn't really want to go on.
It's like a bad relationship that just doesn't ever get resolved, and thanks to Pennsylvania there is no resolution in sight..
However some Democratic voters have become enamored of this endless primary. They are sooooo excited to have the next primary in their State and get a chance to have their say about Hill and Obama...too bad we can't get the Republicans to put the election on hold while we Democrats run an endless primary season.
Fact of the matter is that the primary season seldom goes on this long and for all of us to get a chance to have our say means that we are not only generously giving the Republicans a chance to solidify their base, but more importantly, millions of independents are seeing John McCain in a different more positive light while they are seeing our candidate in an endless slug fest that elevates neither of them.
The math is indisputable and unless the super delegates are inclined to take it away from the candidate who is ahead in the delegate count, has won the most states and the most popular vote, then it is for all intents and purposes over. Neither of them will cross the line in the delegate count but Obama is ahead and it is not going to narrow at this point.
Additionally, we can not begin to win in the General without our base. The party has many base components but one of our largest and most loyal, African Americans, are supporting Barack by huge margins, and we absolutely can not win in November without them. Their support for Obama was not always a given, but between Bill in SC and Geradine prior to OH, the argument could be made that the Clinton campaign has lost them and I would argue that they are not coming back to Hillary this cycle no matter what she says or does.
That said, please don't let my obsession with the math or the rules or the base, ruin the party for all the other Democrats in the United States and every territory and protectorate. Let's keep going and let everyone have their say. If we play our cards right we can have the primaries wrapped up just in time to have a floor battle in Denver and witness Hillary and her team have a credentials fight as well. Geez, perhaps we can end up with a brokered convention with neither of them as our nominee and everyone demoralized going into the General, the corporate media will be ecstatic!!!!
Seriously wont that be fun?
Not that it will matter much because after all that we will be screwed in November because we diddled around while the Republicans framed the General Election for the media. You know the media? The ones who not only gave John McCain a standing ovation but his favorite donuts with sprinkles to prove their love and devotion??
Are we so incredibly stupid? We need to end this and get on with it or we need to realize we deserve the result we ultimately get.
