It's been brought to my attention that video of my exchange with John Ashcroft has finally surfaced, and that the dialogue doesn't precisely match my memorial reconstruction of it in my earlier thread. Substantially, it is the same--I ask about Yukio Asano, he says the cases aren't comparable because one is pouring and the other is forcing, he gets angry--but the phrase "apples and oranges" was never actually uttered. For anyone who might have an issue with my errors, I am sincerely sorry. To clear the record and let you judge for yourselves how accurate I was or was not, here is the video of the exchange:
(Note: This video includes only the Tokyo Tribunal exchange, not my apology to him or the Senate reservations discussion.)
UPDATE: While I'm at it, I should probably tell you about the aftermath of the speech here at Knox. Sad to say, it's not pretty--the members of the College Republicans have been shoved, spit at, and sent hate mail and death threats. The Galesburg residents have been filling the comment section of the Galesburg Register-Mail with hateful comments that the protesters "should have been tased," that the students of Knox are dirty commie/hippie/free speech Nazis trying to destroy the Constitution. It's getting very ugly, very fast. This is why I so heavily emphasized being civil--because if you aren't, this is what happens. Communication disintegrates. (You can see some of the worst of the ugliness here.)
UPDATE MACH II: By the way, major kudos to you guys--the local newspaper released the video because you guys gave the story so much publicity. Let's try to get this video out, too...I think a lot of people on the netroots would like to see what happened for themselves.
