OK, I've had it with this whole idea of so and so throwing so and so "under the bus". I can't remember the last time I heard a whole segment on a major newscast in which some political analyst didn't use the phrase. "Obama is throwing Wright under the bus", "Hillary just threw Obama under the bus"... etc.
Well, let this be my official notice- Today, I am throwing "Under the Bus" under the bus.
The internet is a virtual bus lot. A search in Google News shows 421 results for "under the bus"- most occur just over the last month. A Google proper search for the phrase returns 289,000 results. There are entire blogs dedicated to "under the bus".
You can read a list of user-generated definitions for "under the bus" here.
Some of the definitions are swift as a Greyhound, others are better suited for the short bus.
While the imagery, at first, is rather entertaining, we must be wary of its over-usage. We can't become desensitized to the act. You gotta really be pissed at somebody before you throw them under a bus. And when you're thrown under the bus, you know it. You don't come back from it. Just because someone may disagree with you or denounce you in a public venue does not mean they are throwing you under a bus. So, before this big yellow monster gets rolling to fast, it's time to let some air out of the over-inflated tires.
For example, today Obama didn't throw Wright under the bus. No, he simply stopped the bus and publicly told Wright to get off. Now he and his campaign will continue on their way, a little bit lighter. It is the right thing to do when you have a screaming crazy passenger who is scaring the other passengers.
So, Under the Bus- you've had your day. I am officially, publicly, and finally, throwing your sorry ass under the bus.
UPDATE: At the suggestion of bluearmadillo, and in keeping with the theme, I'm adding "BREAKING" to the title.
UPDATE 2: Now updated to "BRAKING" to further reflect general absurdities.
