I bet you didn't know how much Newt info is out there!
For instance, while a newt is a salamander, a salamander is not always a newt.
The word "salamander" is the name for an entire group, or scientific order, of amphibians that have tails as adults. This includes animals commonly known as newts and sirens. Most of the animals in the salamander order look like a cross between a lizard and a frog. They have moist, smooth skin like frogs, and long tails like lizards. The term "newt" is sometimes used for salamanders that spend most of each year living on land. The name "siren" is generally given to salamanders that have lungs as well as gills and never develop beyond the larval stage. Other names salamanders go by include olm, axolotl, spring lizard, water dog, mud puppy, hellbender, triton, and congo eel. Whew!
Also, salamanders need to stay cool and moist, which makes me wonder why in fantasy novel magick, the salamander tends to be a Fire elemental. Probably some remnant of ancient/medieval alchemy.
Some newts are uglier than others. Also, some websites. Some newts are kinda cute. And some are toxic.Well, you probably suspected as much. But I'm sure other amphibians (and amphibian lovers) are appreciative of their many charms.
Ah, but the Newt we're stuck with tonight is Gingrich. I expect the requisite amount of politickery chat, but he's also written another book (his co-author is quite prolific, by the way). It's yet another WWII alternate history. With a stunningly original premise. But I suppose there are only so many historical pivot points to work from. Customer reviews include such phrases as "far better than I expected" (in reference to the authors previous book), and, well, this gem. And I'm not nearly interested enough to search for anything more.
Also airing at about this time will be your local sports and weather. My area has a frost warning tonight. Also, Mr. Met visited a hospital. They're doing a fundraiser for an injured EMT. And it seems it's still hockey season. Huh. |
