The love-affair the Traditional Media has with John McCain is making me nauseus. I get a headache from their willingness to let his lies slide by as "Gaffe's" and not report on his incompetence.
Today's example? From MSNBC:
McCain: Americans most willing to sacrifice
Service and sacrifice
During a recent campaign stop in Cleveland, McCain agreed to sit down and talk with The Associated Press about service and sacrifice — his own and that of the American people, whom he believes have an instinct for sacrifice embedded in their DNA that emerges particularly starkly during troubled times.
"It's throughout our country's history. I think it's been greater at times than at other times, depending on what the external and internal challenges have been. ... But I think it's always been a trait and a characteristic of the American citizen," he says.
Then he adds: "With all due respect to citizens of every other nation of the world ... I don't think, because of the very nature of our history, that they match up to our citizens' willingness to serve and sometimes to sacrifice."
Wow a call for Sacrifice from a major Presidential candidate. How bold! How noble!
Only, this sounds a little familiar.
Remember our old friend John Edwards?
Edwards: Americans should give up their SUVs
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards told a labor group Tuesday that he would ask Americans to make a big sacrifice: their sport utility vehicles.
"I think Americans are actually willing to sacrifice," Edwards said during a forum held by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. "One of the things they should be asked to do is drive more fuel efficient vehicles."
The former North Carolina senator was asked specifically if he would tell them to give up their SUVS, he said, "Yes."
That took place last August.
And what was the response from the Traditional Media to Edwards call to Sacrifice?
*Crickets* Crickets
So certainly, McCain's call for sacrifice would fall on deaf ears, right?
Yeah-fucking-right.
Sacrifice: An American virtue on rebound
Yup, instead of silence we get an AP Commentary on the virtues of Sacrifice in American history. Better yet, the piece cites Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee and John McCain - but NO DEMOCRATS - on how important sacrifice is in 2008.
In fact, if you read the first paragraph you'd think it's only the GOP willing to have the discussion.
It was a simple question, really, one the debate moderator hoped would lead Republican presidential candidates into a discussion about how much the public was willing to give to benefit the nation. "What sacrifice," she said, "would you ask Americans to make to lower the country's debt?"
Disgusting. Absolutely, disgusting.
