We've heard over the years about a potential push for a NAFTA highway that would run from Mexico to Canada. I think this has been blogged by TXsharon on this site.
Today's federal register of EPA notices of draft federal environmental impact statements contains a notice possibly addressing this highway.
The EPA notice is below:
EIS No. 20070512, Draft EIS, FHW, TX, Tier 1 DEIS--I-69/Trans-Texas
Corridor Study, Improvement to International, Interstate and
Instrastate Movement of Good and People, Louisiana-Mexico/Northeast
Texas to Mexico, Comment Period Ends: 04/18/2008, Contact: Donald Davis
512-536-5900. Revision to FR Notice Published 12/14/2007: Extending
Comment Period from 3/19/2008 to 4/18/2008.
The "NAFTA highway" has sparked controversy in both left and right wing circles. It was mentioned in Ron Paul's campaign and others have objections to land takings for it.
I gather there has been indifference in the major media to the fact that such plans might exist.
Note that a comment period is presently running on the draft environmental impact statement until April 18.
