I just ran across the most horrifying article. I'm trying to remember the last time I was so incredibly offended by something that wasn't said by a Clinton. I'm coming up empty.
Wake Up Democrats: You Are Hung up on Barack, but Hillary is What You Need
A few horrifying snippets:
Fellow Democrats, there's something I've been meaning to tell you, but I've been a little uneasy bringing it up. Well, here goes. I don't think Barack Obama is for you. And I think we need to talk about it.
Wait, wait, before you get defensive--just hear me out. I know you love him. I know he's got a lot to offer. He's handsome, brainy, charming, passionate, and your love is brand spankin' new. Of course he wants you madly - who wouldn't? - and you're crazy about him.
But sweeties, listen to me: you don't really know this man.
And that's a big problem.
For starters--and please don't hate me for saying this--he's too young for you. Yes, I know JFK was young, too, but that was a long time ago, the world was simpler then, and anyway, Barack Obama--lovely as he is--is no Jack Kennedy.
So please wake up and realize this man is not your first love. He may have JFK's charm, but he does not have his level of experience.
Sure, Barack wants to help the disadvantaged, and students, and cares about energy independence. I hear you. Sure he gets you hot when he looks into your eyes and delivers his stirring speeches. But can he provide for and protect you and your children?
And--I have to say it--the whole Jeremiah Wright incident really freaked me out.
"God damn America!?!"
Aren't you American? You can try to rationalize it away, sweeties, but that was a major dis--of YOU. And of me. And of every American, black or white, who doesn't believe that our country, for all its faults, is the Antichrist. Since when does a guy who loves you let his friends put you down?
He's already taking you for granted. He says he values you, but then he treats everyone who shlepped out to vote in Michigan and Florida like you're invisible. And forget about getting an autograph.
I ended up quoting almost the whole thing because the whole thing is SO AWFUL. I don't know about you guys, but I am just so tired of being told that, as an Obama supporter, I'm, like, deluded, or hypnotized, or somehow asleep. That I've been sold a bill of goods. That I'm swoony, or have a crush. That I'm just some dizzy girl who's attached herself to the nearest cute boy.
Does the author not realize how incredibly insulting and patronizing this is? Does she not realize that Ted Kennedy and Lee Hamilton and Bill Richardson and (almost) Jimmy Carter are supporting this guy? Would she say to Ted Kennedy's face, "Sweetie, listen to me: You don't really know this man." I'm guessing no.
The irony of this whole argument, of course, is that Obama is the first candidate in a generation, at least, who talks to us like adults.
And, what's the deal with this "You don't really know him" meme, anyway? This is the second time I've heard it in the past few days. Rendell said a few days ago that there might be 10% about Hillary that we don't know, but there's 50% about Obama we don't know. How Rendell knows enough to know exactly what we don't know, I have no idea.
And this popular vote thing: seriously. Drop it. It's over. It's obvious that the plan is for Hillary to suggest that, as a "compromise," the popular vote for MI and FL will be counted but not the delegates - but an unfair election is an unfair election, folks. You knew the rules. If you were unhappy with the DNC's plan, you should have said something way back when the DNC made the ruling. But of course she didn't, because she expected to win this thing in a walk. But she didn't, and we went ahead with the election knowing MI and FL wouldn't count, and that means no delegates, no votes. Drop the disenfranchisement bullshit, especially now that you're saying that "there's no such thing as a pledged delegate - so, you want everyone's votes to count, but only if they voted for you. If they voted for Obama, it's perfectly acceptable to poach the delegates that represent their votes.
Sorry, I went a little overboard there. My point is, I am mad at this article.
