The Pegasus Parade is the oldest event of the Kentucky Derby Festival, it is the second highest attended event of the Festival, leaving the Derby and the Kentucky Oaks aside. It is a place to see (celebrities like Bobby Flay, Willard Scott, Kynt and Vyxen of Amazing Race fame) and be seen.
It is the being seen portion I am interested in for this diary.
We have our primary on May 20th and judging not by polls, but by more intangible factors (bumper sticker count, yard signs, etc.) Louisville at least is Obama country. It was really brought home to Mrs. Madman and myself today. At the parade there were at least three or four groups of about 10 or more sign carrying Obama supporters, chanting up the crowd for Obama. There were five or more pairs of folks passing out stickers and doing a more one to one meet and greet.
How many people did Hillary have at the parade? Well, My wife and myself sit about a half block from the main review and TV opportunity stand. Those familiar with parades know this is the place to be as the units try to do their best stuff here. But Senator Clinton had zero signs and we had 1(1!!) pair of Hillary supporters ask if we were planning to vote for Hillary. We answered in unison "No" and they walked away! No secondary contact, no asking why, just walked away.
Now, admittedly Louisville is not indicative of the rest of Kentucky. Louisville proper is actually very progressive. But, I wonder about the polls coming out of Kentucky and whether they might be too heavily weighted towards the Appalachian regions of Kentucky. Because Louisville certainly seems fired up and ready to go.
