It's on the Lansing NPR station. Barrack is coming to Michigan Wednesday.
Also just got a call from my daughter in Grand Rapids telling me she just received an email from the GR Dem Party telling her Obama would be coming to GR on Wednesday. She called them for tickets and learned he'd be there around 7 PM.
So why is this important? Think about what it may mean for Obama to be in Michigan the day after the WV primary. The answer may be on the flip side of this diary.
First, NPR rightfully noted that Obama has not been to Michigan since his pledge to not campaign here before the ill fated Michigan primary. And he's been busy in other primary and caucus states since then. So what's changed? Perhaps camp Clinton has finally accepted a deal on the seating of the Michigan and Florida delegations. The NPR story said Obama would be in florida on Wednesday too. Sounds like Obama is hitting these two "important states" right after Clinton pulls a big victory in WV. Could be that the announcement on Michigan and Florida will come out during the day on Tuesday and Obama will change the media narrative from Clinton winning WV to a general election story rolling out from Florida and Grand Rapids. Ah yes, Grand Rapids - the heartland of the Republican Party in Michigan. Home to Dick DeVos, failed candidate for Governor in 2006 and CEO of Amway. Home to his wife Betsey DeVos, biggest benefactor to the GOP in the nation (her words), and brother to Eric Prince, President and founder of Blackwater. Barrack will be speaking at the VanAndle Arena, named after the Devos Partner in Amway. It is curious that Barrack's campaign will be in the heartland of the GOP in Michigan, unless you think he is not aiming his fire at HC, but going after Republican voters to carry Michigan.
Even more curious may be the real significance of reaching a deal with HC on the seating of the Florida and Michigan delegations. Once that is done, Clinton loses her last fragment of rationale for her campaign to press on. With the settlement of the wild card delegations, HC will still be behind, and furthermore, out of reach from over taking Obama. She can crow about standing firm to make sure all the votes got counted - her spin. But the truth is, as soon as they announce the seating of Michigan and Florida, Clinton has no further reason to stay in the race other than to just say stupid things like "poor hard working white folks need me to fight for them." Those kind of remarks are sending all the remaining delegates into the arms of camp Obama.
So, just watch to see if Obama's coming to Michigan is tied to an announcement of the seating of Michigan and Florida delegates, ending the the last real battle with camp Clinton. If this happens, you also know they have a deal on the HC campaign debt. HC needed to leverage MI and FL delegate seating to get traction on help with her debt.
Stay tuned. The WV primary may not be the big story tomorrow. In order to get 12,000 into the arena here, the Obama campaign will need to let the word out fast. That will bring on all sorts of questions from a curious media. It's starting to sound like the general election is on.
