Cobb bar protested as racist for Obama T-shirts - from the AJC.
Marietta tavern owner Mike Norman says the T-shirts he's peddling, featuring cartoon chimp Curious George peeling a banana, with "Obama in '08" scrolled underneath, are "cute." But to a coalition of critics, the shirts are an insulting exploitation of racial stereotypes from generations past.
...
Norman said those offended are "hunting for a reason to be mad" and insisted he is "not a racist."

Funny, these types of views are frequently made public in Georgia and people just let them slide. This guy has been posting signs outside his bar for years with sayings such as "I wish Hillary had married OJ." These are the same guys who complain about "liberals playing the race card" and "those angry liberals." These views actually swamp the Atlanta Journal Constitution's blog comments. Many of the blogs, such as the blog the AJC posts Mike Luckovich's editorial cartoons, are unreadable because of people with these views.
While many people here in Georgia, like my old, racist white Uncle, insist that they are not racist, it is obvious that they are. I am glad the Cobb-Cherokee Immigrant Alliance and other groups have started protests. We need to tie all these people to their views- not just the few nuts who post them on signs. Sadly, Mulligan's business will probably pick up.
