My wife just send me this article from the Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/...
This is not surprising, but it is surprising that it's not being covered more by our media, no?
We need to be reminded that even though Senator Barack Obama may be the Democratic Party's choice for the presidential nominee and may be the best choice for president in 2008's elections - given the three current candidates in the two major parties - we've still got a lot to overcome.
(more over the fold)
We need to be reminded that the war on terror is NOT just over there. There are wars, so to speak, to be fought HERE!!
We still have outward and open racism in parts of this country. Proving, once again, that there are people here still living in caves.
We still have these jackasses running around the country, again, proving there are cave dwellers amongst us.
I don't want a story like the WaPo's to derail Senator Obama's chances because we go back to all the fears incorporated with the potential of a non-white, non-male, and/or non-Christian candidate's chances with the backwoods/backwards residents of this country.
I do want this story to be seen, though, for the sake of revealing that we still have a lot of growing up to do. And, if that's not constructive criticism for the citizens of this country, then we're in worse shape than I've thought.
UPDATE: Updated "backwoods" to italic to represent that I'm using a metaphor regarding the "cave dwellers" of the US and not a phyical location in the back woods of any state (RE: Guaunya's post: http://www.dailykos.com/... )
