McCain/Clinton could that be the offspring of the seemingly endless hatred by Obama supporters not only against HRC but her supporters?
You'd think that now that she's basically lost, Obama would NOT be alone in being considerate of her as a person, but judging by online, the typical Obama supporter, QUITE UNLIKE OBAMA, still has a take no prisoners approach to HRC. Their goal now is to humiliate her at the convention, strip her of all influence and say and of course absolutely bar her from the VP slot.
Those who think that idiotic and insane should remember that we almost had KERRY/MCCAIN in 2004.
But in victory, I wonder if Obama supporters can regain some common sense in regards to how to properly treat a vanquished opponent, who DID get 48% of the legal votes (not including Fl. and Mich.) who does have stronger support in key constituencies that the Democrats MUST win in the GENERAL ELECTION, and who could be the one person able to deliver those votes to Obama with the MOST certainty.
SHe is the MOST well-known. No "state focused VP" like Strictland from Ohio can match her, and Strictland can't deliver Clinton voters who feel driven out of the party by their perception of how their candidate has been treated.
(I liked John Edwards).
It IS THE DUTY OF THE VICTOR in Democracies to reach out and FORGIVE and INCLUDE.
Can we all say South Africa, Nelson Mandela?
What would he do. Oh we don't have to ask.
He had DeKlerk serve under him.
The strong desire that so many Obama supporters have to humiliate and degrade her by the the time the convention is done by forcing her to the sidelines and making her a non-entity is truly breathtaking for its lack of political common sense.
How anyone can say it's wise to judge her solely on this primary contest considering her decades long involvement as a strong advocate of many causes the left holds dear is beyond me - oh wait she dares to be pragmatic. That is unforgivable. Like all ideologues, left or right it's "their way or the highway."
While Obama supporters online may think this is the ultimate justice to the vast majority of Americans who are NOT left-wing Democratic activists, this will seem like a huge injustice.
They will NOT get why HRC was basically crucified by her own - and that is what most think. We've had a couple of decades of RW media telling us Clinton is a Lefty's Lefty.
Such poor treatment is the one thing that could neutralize her negatives like nothing else can, and instead turn her into a sympathetic figure, a heroine of sorts for the vast middle who feel grossly mistreated by the elite left and kleptocratic Right.
America dislikes "sore losers" but HATES BAD WINNERS - and that is what Obama supporters are sounding like as they start to celebrate en masse.
Will their punishment be McCain/Clinton?
If Obama's ideologically driven supporters succeed in their goal to reduce her to a "nobody" in the party, they would have forfeited any right they had to her supporting the nominee and her loyalty overall.
why would she remain loyal to the party that declared her decades long involvement as a Democrat as being worthless, declared her persona non grata and by default her Ex-President husband, you remember Bill?
It would NOT be betrayal for her to turn her back on the party that mistreated her so and basically disowned her.
The real irony of this campaign is how the Conservative media have been the ONLY ones to step up and defend her, and thus set the groundwork for McCain to actually ask her, and if she accepted have the party machinery accept her as well
(other than the RW extremists - but they won't support McCain regardless so he risks nothing.)
It's double irony that if Republican voices who've trashed her so badly in the past realize that she is the one thing that can win it for them - they'll swallow the whale with a smile.
Of course, the ideologues won't agree, or will they? They actually clearly feel sympathy for her plight.
Most of all, McCain WOULD FEEL A BOND.
He's dealt with the same thing back in 2000.
No One should be surprised that if the Democrats decide to "humiliate HRC" to find out 2wks later that McCain has asked her to be his running mate, and that she accepted.
Obama may be "change you can believe in"..................But
MCCAIN/CLINTON WOULD BE SOLD AS THE UNITY TICKET UNITING THE VAST MIDDLE and the ticket guaranteed to deliver a Republican victory against all odds - even a bad economy, because it would divorce, divest McCain from the current Republican legacy in a brief second, and promise to do something most Americans fervently wish would happen, force the fringe extremists on the Right and Left off center stage of politics.
It would cement McCain's claim to the title of Maverick beholden to no special interests or ideological wing.
It would be wise to make sure in losing HRC feels wanted and still a central part of the team and strongly pushing for Obama's election as President.
Judging from the comments from Obama's inner circle (NOT OBAMA HIMSELF) that's not likely.
Obama is the ultimate arbiter as the party nominee. Ultimately it will be he who decides how she is treated.
Any excuse along the lines of "I tried" won't cut it. He will have the power, just like Mandela did, and if does not use it to unify by nominating HRC as VP, then by default he will have used his power to divide and set the stage for Democrats to lose an election designed for them to win.
If she is disgraced at the Democratic convention as many core Obama supporters want to happen, then no one should be surprised if 2wks later during the Republithug convention, McCain reveals the unbelievable but true and probably unbeatable ticket of McCain/Clinton-The UNITY TICKET vs. CHANGE you can believe in. Hmmmmm.
