The DCCC has targeted several districts for this year's election. They have not targeted FL-07, John Mica's district. Since the Democratic Party is winning all special elections, why not target an important district like ours? The I-4 corridor is especially important in the Presidential election, as we all are very familiar with.
Why John Mica needs to go.
John Mica seems to have stayed under the radar his entire Congressional career and that appears to be why he still has a job. People have heard his name, but they don’t really know what he stands for. Sure they’ve heard vague references about transportation, but they can’t really name one thing he has done in the 8 terms he has served in Congress.
People also seem to think that Mica is a moderate Republican. Mica is actually one of the most extremist members of Congress. He is also one of the Republicans who signed the Contact With America. Let’s see how he has fared with a few of those promises.
The Fiscal Responsibility Act: Instead of the promised balanced budgets, we now have the largest deficits ever. Thank to John Mica, the Republican Congress and George W. Bush.
The Taking Back Our Streets Act: Violent crimes have been on the rise for the past few years. In the Orlando area alone the murder rate has doubled.
The Citizens Legislature Act: This was to put term limits on Congress. John Mica is now running for his 9th term.
He is also the only member of Congress or the Senate, from Florida, who supports off shore drilling.
When he was the head of the Transportation Committee he let the Bridge to Nowhere and Coconut Road get through, until they were found out.
He voted against minimum wage.
He voted against instituting the 9-11 recommendations.
He voted against stem cells.
He voted No on paying for AMT relief by closing offshore business loopholes.
Voted NO on prohibiting job discrimination based on sexual orientation
Voted NO on $84 million in grants for Black and Hispanic colleges
Voted NO on protecting whistleblowers from employer recrimination
Voted NO on regulating the subprime mortgage industry
Voted NO on removing oil & gas exploration subsidies
Voted NO on raising CAFE standards; incentives for alternative fuels
Voted YES on deauthorizing "critical habitat" for endangered species.
Voted NO on adding 2 to 4 million children to SCHIP eligibility.
Voted NO on requiring negotiated Rx prices for Medicare part D
