I think Kossaks should prepare themselves for a period in which Obama falls behind McCain in the polls and he doesn't seem to be getting his message out there the way we would wish. I expect this is true because of something I've noticed about Obama's way of running his campaign. Occassionally, he likes to play rope-a-dope.
I saw this in the way he operated in Iowa in the weeks before the primary. He was getting hammered by Clinton and others and while he seemed to be blocking the blows well enough, he wasn't doing much publicly to counter-attack or really even challenge the primary thrust of the arguments against him.
And then came that pivotal speech at the premier Iowa Democratic gathering that turned it all around.
From this and similar periods in the past I concluded, and true I could be imagining this, but I concluded that Obama likes to hear his opponent's case all laid out and allowed to sink in to everyone's mind before eviscerating it. He likes his opponent to land a bunch of punches and think they've won only to find out that they've really just been set up.
And this I think is a great strategy, but it can be hard on the nerves of supporters watching him just sit and take punches. So I'm writing all of you Obama fans out there that if you see this pattern emerge in the next couple of weeks or months, don't be surprised. If I'm right, it's all part of the plan.
