Okay, that's it. I've been reading the posts, the comments and the stories floating around the MSM and press. I'm pissed. I'm mad about this campaign and I'm mad with the Democratic voters and leadership of this country.
I do not presume to know the answers but I know that something terribly wrong is happening to us.
The Washington Post had this up and after reading it I was absolutely livid.
"There's just been an attitude that if you aren't voting for Barack Obama, then you're a racist," said Cowley, 49, a mother of four from Massachusetts who has vowed to never back the senator from Illinois. "I just find that intolerable. I feel like when the members of the media talk about how [Obama's supporters] would react, they say, 'Well, we can't take the vote away from African Americans.' Well, excuse me, there's a higher percentage of women."
"The sexist crap that comes out of people's mouths is really scary to me," said Amilyn Lanning, 38, a Zionsville, Pa., voter who supported Clinton in last month's primary. "There's a lot of the b-word being thrown about, even in jest by comedians. There's a lot of comments made about her pantsuits, and the way she dresses. There's a viciousness."
To Veronica Tonay, 48, a psychology professor at the University of California at Santa Cruz and a Clinton supporter, Obama has become a pop star, the contestant on "American Idol" who wins votes because he's cute, while the best singer is eliminated.
If Obama is the nominee, Tonay said, McCain will be just fine with her. "In the end, I won't vote for Obama because I don't know who he is, and I don't trust him," she said. "If McCain gets in, he would have a weak presidency, and we would have a Democratic Congress anyway. Obama could do more damage."
"In my heart I just can't bring myself to [vote for Obama], and I feel like a schlep," she said. "I'm not going to be voting for him, and it irritates me. Nobody's concerned about the women. I don't think I can vote for McCain. I guess I'll have to sit it out."
For the love of God someone put me out of my misery! Okay, deep breath. I haven't heard many people bring up another aspect of why this primary has been so embattled; it's that this country is so unbelievably yearning for change. We have been pushed around and beaten down and we want to revolt and make sure those sons-of-b*tches never do this to the country we love again. We just happen to have two great candidates that we feel passionate about. As a country we know we are on the wrong track and we have to change and change things quick so we don't end up like the Romans.
This passion has been expressed in record breaking voter turnout and in special election victories. But we've somehow managed to miss the forest for the trees. We have fallen in love with our candidate of choice and we miss the fact that ANY Democratic candidate would move our country into the right direction. We believe our candidate is the best choice to lead us out of this mess and the other candidate's supporters just don't get the importance of why this candidate will be better for the country.
For Clintonites out there I have one thing to say to you "GET OVER YOURSELVES AND THINK OF THE F*UCKING COUNTRY!" This election is not about women being mistreated or about sexism. I grant that this historical election has fanned those flames but for crying out loud are you really willing to bankrupt the country and send millions of other Americans into Poverty because you got your feelings hurt?
I am a 25 year old woman. No, I didn't have to undergo the battles the women before me had to but I work in one of the most male-dominated industries that still exists today (I work with rodeo bulls and basically deal with stock contractors, bull riders and bull breeders: 99.5% male). I have had to bust my butt to even gain credibility but I did it. I didn't whine and complain about it I just did it. I know what misogyny is and how hard of a fight it is and I repect and thank all of the women who came before me and fought so that I'd even have this chance. But enough is enough.
For those Clinton supporters like the ones quoted in the article I have a question for you: What kind of role models are you being for MY generation? You don't get what you want so you just give up? Or you become the charactured woman and start to whine and complain about not getting fair treatment. Tell me how you've helped the women's movement because I can't figure it out. You want women to be portrayed as strong and capable and you idealize Clinton without even being able to acknowledge her faults. It's like that boy you dated that your mother told you wasn't good enough but you ignored ALL of his faults until he screwed you over and broke your heart. Sometimes you just get too close to be able to see what everyone around you is pointing out until you get screwed over. Except you've alinated everyone that was trying to protect you so you end up mad at them for pointing it out as if they're the ones that caused him to do it. You're acting like the girlfriend so grow up and be secure enough with yourselves that you don't need Hillary to make you feel okay as a woman.
I think the example that has been set by Hillary has poorly served women in this country. Yes she is strong and I give it to her, she's a fighter. But she's whined, lied, used Republican tactics to get her way, played the race card, considered herself unbeatable, didn't plan, mismanaged her money, tried to change the rules in the middle of the game and had bad judgement in picking the staff that so poorly served her. Obama didn't DO this to her, she did it to herself. If we want a woman President then as women we have be stronger and less pathetic than this election has portrayed us to be. This whole "I will NEVER vote for Obama" and "John McCain is fine with me" is pathetic. You got your feelings hurt and damned the country you're going to have it your way or no way. How the hell do you expect anyone to respect women when you act like that? And how the hell can you expect my generation to be strong when you're showing so much weakness?
Do you even care that my generation typically gets out of college with more than $20,000 in debt and can't find jobs? I am working on my PhD but I have friends with their Master's making less than $10/hr. You think you're helping women by giving up? What about your daughters in middle school and high school? You're going to deny them the opportunities to advance themselves and succeed because the economy is going to hell and our jobs are going overseas? I guarantee you your daughters are going to have to fight a lot harder than you did if McSame is President. Four more years of these economic policies are going to be VERY hard for this country to recover from and if we lose the middle class we'll be fighting for the next generation to get it back all because you didn't get your way.
Sorry, I needed to rant. I didn't mean to offend anyone but after reading the comments all of these women make I just had to voice my opinion.
