This kind of diary isn't going to be very popular around here (or in any Progressive circles), but I have done a bit of soul searching over the last 30 days or so. And I wanted to just put my thoughts down.
I realize this diary will disappear into oblivion soon enough, so no harm done. But I really just wanted to get my feelings out because I am so damn disappointed in Barack that I can't stand myself. I worked really hard for him in my state, and fought plenty of fights on his behalf.
But now I am done with him, and I have six reasons why...
And none of them have anything to do with Hillary!
- His response to Rev Wright
This is my number one issue. Barack, in the interest of politics, took a good man, who has done amazing things in Chicago and throughout the nation, and just threw him off the boat to drown.
I was disgusted (see my "Uncle Tom" Obama diary) and really could not believe that Barack, who I had really believed in, would just turn his back on someone who had been so influential and so important in his life.
It was at this point that I realized that Barack just wants to be President, and we Progressives and True-Believers are just a convenient means to an end.
- Ahmadinejad
Barack is wrong on this issue. Period. No defending his position. Ahmadinejad is as horrible a person as Hitler ever was, and the fact that Barack can't seem to see that makes me question his ability to really make judgements about character (see the Rev Wright fiasco).
- He doesn't understand Baseball.
I cannot support a person for President who doesn't get baseball. And the fact that Barack has said, over and over, that "it is the 9th inning and we have the lead, therefore we have won the game" reflects a serious misunderstanding of the metaphor. In baseball, we play all 9 innings regardless of the score. Sorry, my friend, but you need to play the WHOLE GAME in order to earn the win. Odd, but this one REALLY bugged me alot!
- He appears to be humorless.
Barack never cracks a joke that seems off the cuff. As much as I dislike McCain, at least he can be spontaneously funny. Kinda like Reagan, for those of us old enough to remember. Barack is just too serious all of the time.
- He's a Communist!
OBAMA: 'We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK'...
That quote is ridiculous. Thank God the MSM didn't cover it. He'd lose every state in the Union if they knew he was going to tell them what they can drive, how warm/cold their homes should be, and take food off of our tables.
I don't know if Barack really BELIEVES this nonsense, but I really wish he'd keep it to himself if he does!
- He doesn't support gay marriage.
This is a hot button for me because of family issues. It sucks when people you love and the partners that they love are treated like second class citizens. Unfortunately, Barack is avoiding this issue like the plague because he is worried about it costing him votes.
Instead, why not get out in front and insist that the whole nation adopt this reasonable standard: people who are in commited relationships should be legally recognized. Period.
Show some leadership, Man!
That's it. It's a cummulative effect of losing faith in someone I cared about. I was Barack before Barack was cool! And now I just can't bring myself to vote for or support him. I won't vote McCain; I will just leave the vote blank.
Bring back Al!!!
