Occasionally I go to MyDD to get a feel for the attitudes of that community. I was encouraged by what I found. More below the fold
As most Kossacks know, myDD has been a sounding board for pro-Clinton voices, often very partisan acrimonius ones. However, a shift has been occurring there. One evidence of that was diaried by heynonny. On May 7th she thanked Todd Beeton for his "concession" story recognizing Obama's game-changing victory in NC.
I wish every Clinton supporter, hell every American, could read this. I'd like to think I could have been as gracious after the kind of personal investment this man made, but I could not have been.
I hope Democrats have the wisdom and strength, as a group, to be closer to Todd's quality of character than my own. If they do, then a united party will overwhelmingly bring at least a shot at good government back to our country for the first time in a long, long time.
My visit to MyDD today confirmed good things happening there. The top two recommended diaries on MyDD are now from voices of moderation and unity.
It's a democratic REPUBLIC, stupid! By Elsinora
Erica Jong: Dems Unite Behind Obama by upstate girl
In constrast the third diary on the rec list is a divisive one from Allegre
It's DEMOCRACY Stupid!
The very fact that two unifying diaries are at the top of the rec list is a joy. Because Elsinora’s unity diary and Alegre’s divisive diary were posted about the same time, (about 10PM last night), and provide opposing views of the same issue (validity of delegate vs popular vote arguments) it provided the opportunity to directly compare. The easiest comparison is # of recommendations. The unity diary had 105 recommendations while the divisive one had 68 recommendations. (Not surprisingly, there was no overlap in the recommenders). You can look at this finding as a glass half empty or half full. Given how acrimonious the anti-Obama feeling has been at times at myDD, I favor the half full view. I am delighted that >60% of the recommenders favor the unifying view.
I have a lot of respect for many of the folks at myDD. Many are Clinton supporters who believe strongly in democratic principles and are unifying behind Obama. Others are probably Obama supporters who weathered the storm. To both, I give thanks.
