In case you have no idea what I'm talking about here is the link to Michelle Malkin's column titled "Of Donuts and Dumb Celebrities":
http://michellemalkin.com/...
In it she argues that Rachel Ray and Dunkin Donuts are sending coded pro-terrorist messages by wearing a "Jihadi Chic Keffiyeh" in an ad - its a scarf around her neck with a paisley design.
Even though Malkin has a tendency to be a little outlandish in her opinions, I sincerely thought that this was a joke when I first read it. A little self-effacing humor perhaps, maybe a slow news day or the equivalent of an April Fools joke. But the more I read the more I realized "Oh my god... she's serious."
I realize now that Malkin's piece was actually a glimpse into a warped mind, an opportunity to peer into the depths of xenophobic paranoia. It turns out that, to people like Michelle - a Dunkin Donuts ad featuring Rachel Ray can be a secret propaganda message. If even THAT inspires this kind of paranoia I can only imagine what she and others like her must "see" in the news media on a nightly basis.
Now in my opinion, as insane as Malkin's writings on this subject are... Olbermann goes a tad far in comparing those like Malkin to terrorists. I really don't see why all the extra editorializing is necessary when all he has to do is explain what she said and any reasonable person would say "OK, that is off-the-deep-end nuts".
What are your thoughts on the Olbermann clip below in which he calls out Malkin and Dunkin Donuts (for caving to pressure and pulling the ad)? Does he go too far? Could he have been more effective following my advice and just showing that its crazy?
