Dear Brian
Do you remember after Nick's dad's funeral you and I talking politics?
We argued about politicians and their motives and how in my opinion they all suck. Most are just power hungry bastards You said something like, well, Barack Obama is different. We went back and forth about politicians, and their motives. I dislike, and have disliked them all since Paul Wellstone died. You talked up Barack. That he was different, that he wasn’t the system.
You, hopefully, will vote on Tuesday. The way I see it this is an election about the change of generations. Young people care; people your age care; and I care. Hillary, with all her assets, is a hope for the past. But the past is just that. We can not enact the past. We can not hope for a better time in the future by hoping for that. That is what the ultra-conservatives do. In their mind the 50's were the best.
I was alive and very aware during Bill's presidency. There we good things and bad things. Mostly there was a bunch of fighting and nothing getting done. To me, that is what a second coming of the Clintons entails.
I hate politics and the way it is traditionally done, and I hope that we can stop it. Close the door on a stupid fucking war. Embrace the future and not yearn for the past. We are sitting on the brink of a new powerful generation of politics.
To me, it is not about color or sex. If you vote for a woman because she is a woman, or if you vote for a black man because he is black that is stupid. And it should never be about entitlement. No one deserves to be President. Nobody has earned it before everyone has voted. It is about whom will best lead this country back to what it can be. This one is about the future and not the past. It is time for you and me to acknowledge that this has been a fucked up government for a while.
To me, it goes back to when Clinton was impeached. He did not deserve it on merit alone. Not even close. But what he did do is make a bunch of enemies. He fough and fought and fought. He pissed a lot of people off. He wasn't the only one. His wife, Sen. Clinton did her part pissing people off too. Healthcare failed in 1993 because she could not compromise. On anything.
I am sick and fucking tired of trying to beat the other side into submission to get their way. When you tell people that oppose your views, or more recent, because you did not vote for them, they don't count (see any caucus that Sen. Clinton lost, oh, and Iowa is kinda important) you disenfranchise people. And this country, under this President has had way to much time being told they are unimportant and do not matter.
This current President has been a disaster. In my opinion, a President Clinton would be similar. Maybe not as extreme, but it would be prefaced on fighting your political opponents, destroying your enemies. Rush Limbaugh said that liberals need to be destroyed. No we don't, nor do we have to feel the need to destroy conservatives. What we need to do is come together as Americans.
When I sit at the bar and have a beer with my conservative friends I can have a discussion with them about an issue without wanting to punch them in the face. I can understand why they believe things a certain way.
I have had enough of making your neighbor your enemy because of stupid label. Enough of the ideological civil war in this country, this is what we have done for the post 20, 40, years.
I have had it. Who just said, either you are with us or against us? Answer, Clinton (gas tax break gimmick.) This is why I will never support her. Fucking enough fighting and looking for a fight already.
Love you Brain
