Early voting just ended here in Indiana. The number of early votes in this year's primary election is expected to pass the 162,068 early ballots cast in the 2002 general election. 127,247 had been cast by Thursday according to the Indiana Secretary of State with more than 14,000 cast Thursday alone.
40 percent of the early vote comes for six of Indiana 92 counties: Marion (Indianapolis), Lake (Gary & Hammond),St. Josephs (South Bend & Notre Dame), Vanderburgh (Evansville), Vigo (Terre Haute), and my home county Monroe, home of Bloomington and Indiana University. Monroe County had had over 8,000 ballots cast by Friday wiith early voting continuing all day Saturday and Sunday and ending at noon today. Obama is expect to win heavily in Monroe, Marion and Lake counties. Clinton should do well in the other three counties but I believe Obama will make it close there. I was Tippecanoe County this weekend where Purdue University is located and Senator Obama was there with his family. Tippecanoe County has led the way in bringing the polling sites to the people by starting satellite voting sites in the last election. I saw my father-in-law's early voting postcard and it had 25 - 30 different sites at various locations throughout the county where people could vote early. Early voting was heavy throughout the state.
