MSNBC has been floating the idea that Barack Obama may assume Hillary's campaign debt when he becomes the (presumptive) nominee.
As an Obama donor and supporter, when I initially heard this, I was quite shocked.
After some (admittedly brief) reflection, I don't think it's such a bad idea.
I have donated to the Obama campaign for several reasons. Early on it was to show my support for him after John Edwards left the race.
Recently it has been to show how much I agree with Barack Obama's policies and have disagreed with Hillary's "scorched earth" brand of primary politics.
When this idea of assuming her debt was initially floated tonight on MSNBC - I think I've been paying a fair amount of attention to this primary and this is the first I've heard of this - I was disgusted. How could Barack spend my money on this crap that has been trying to destroy him?
After some thought though, I believe this move would be all about healing the party and significant forward progress for a strong win in November. I think it would bring a lot of Clinton supporters into a unified Democratic front. Especially those that claim they would vote for McSame when Hillary does not obtain the nomination.
I'm all for a united Democratic party and I feel my donations would be well spent in assuming her debt. Everything up to and not including the "loans" she has made to her own campaign. That expense is on her dime.
