This diary is a follow-on of my diary from Wednesday
In it, I made the case that it is time to change the story from delegates to GE issues, and to include issues that the 24-hr 'squawk-machine' is likely to feature in full 'spin-cycle mode'. I also think that it is time to turn up the volume and point out the SCLMs double-standard when it comes to Republicans vs. Democrats and John McCain in particular. My point, over the jump.
As I wrote Wednesday:
Media Matters put a piece up Monday about how the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post both made multiple calls for Teresa Heinz Kerry to release her tax returns four years ago, but have yet to even mention the fact that Cindy McCain won't release hers.
The story is starting to gain some traction. On the 'Today Show', AP reports, "Asked if she would release her tax returns if she was first lady, Cindy McCain said: "No."
And yet, the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post have yet to repeat their drumbeat calls for transparency in POTUS household checkbooks. The McCain campaign's ability to use Cindy's family corporation's jets to ferry the candidate and staff to and fro during the campaign's 'dark days' and bill later, at a cost much lower than actually paid by the corporation, is obviously a direct subsidy by that corporation. This sounds exactly like the kind of thing that 'Maverick' (rightly) used to complain about when other candidates did it. And the WSJ and WaPo's double-standard in not calling him out about it should be something that's brought to their attention ASAP.
For those that think that I'm right about this being an issue that can have legs in cable-land, please use this link to write to these institutions and ask them to be 'fair and balanced'. Those that think I'm barking up the wrong tree, tell me so in this poll.
