Watch the Video if you haven't seen it yet. It's only 5 minutes. I saw the last hour of this marathon on TV last night....better than any reality show
"You Bet Your Ass" Harold Ickes (great name, sir), makes an ass of himself at the Democratic Rules Committee Hearing yesterday. I couldn't believe my ears, leaving aside the totally inappropriate use on national TV of words/phrases like "your bet your ass", "hell" in a party conference. My favorite part: he actually had the "chutzpah" --another great noun of his---to compare the MI primary beauty contest with only one Miss America entry..Sen. Clinton ...to general election stats about low voter turnout as a sound reason to give Hillary Clinton the full delegation! Hellooooooooo, Harold! We are not idiots.......
I've never seen such a appalling display of sarcasm & nastiness, with the possible exception of Joe McCarthy in this kind of serious setting which was supposed to resolve a very significant problem. Mrs. Clinton authorized the Ickes debacle and arranged for all those screaming banshees (& some males as well..let's not be sexist here) to make the trip to the hearing & constantly disrupt the proceedings with yelling, booing, and chants of "Den-ver!, Den-ver"!. Pathetic......Sen. Obama, meanwhile, urged his supporters to stay away from this and do nothing. Much smarter idea.
Sen. Clinton will be lucky if she retains even her Senate seat by the time this is finished. Ickes made a veiled threat at the end...you'll hear it.. Nothing will come of it. It's all grandstanding. She's just desparately trying to hold onto the Clinton power machine...or maybe, she really is interested in VP. It'll never happen, no matter how many tantrums are thrown in the next few months, and no matter how many threats are delivered that she will take all her marbles...over 30 million votes...and go home!
Then read this:
At last year's DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting, Ickes was one of several Clinton supporters to vote to not recognize any delegates from either Florida or Michigan because the two states were about to violate party rules and hold their contests early.
Sept. 1: Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards also sign on to a pledge to skip states that break party rules by holding early primaries.
