I loves me some veepsteaks. And lately, an idea I can't get out of my head is:
Bob Graham is the perfect VP candidate for Obama.
I graduated college in the summer of 1990. Just in time for Saddam to invade Kuwait, and Poppy to start the Gulf War. Job prospects were grim, to put it mildly. I managed to get a job in my field in an absolutely desolate job market thanks to the Florida On-The-Job-Training Program - where the state paid part of the wages for new grads if small businesses hired them. It was a great program, spearheaded by one Governor Bob Graham. I always wanted to thank him for it - so here goes.
Bob Graham is the perfect pick for the Democratic ticket this year. Check the stats:
* Former two-term Governor of Florida. Won with 60% of the vote. Could actually deliver the state, particularly if McCain is dumb enough to pick Charlie Crist.
* Took apart all comers in three Senate races.
(Who'd he beat the third time? Charlie Crist. 63%-37%. Ouch.)
* Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. Adds experience and gravitas.
* Not only opposed the Iraq War from the start, wrote a
book about it.
* Same age as McCain (roughly,) but no real POTUS aspirations anymore. Could conceivably serve four years and step down - providing not only a refreshing juxtaposition to Darth Cheney, but giving the Democratic bench four years to groom the perfect successor.
* Nullifies the "inexperienced" argument.
* White guy. (Shouldn't be a qualifier, but if it helps, great.)
* Not crooked, racist, or too weird. (Yeah, he keeps really
really detailed diaries. Compare that to a guy who doesn't know how many troops we have in Iraq.)
Sound as good to you as it does to me? Then help me help Bob, and let's buzz this up!
Obama/Graham '08!
