Today's blog post on Krugman's NYT site shows an old Oliphant cartoon that mocks Hillary Clinton and calls it Sexism. Along with stating that "so-called" progressives are sexist for allowing it to happen
You can see it for yourself here: Krugman's Blog
It shows Hillary at a desk meeting with terrorists and rogue leaders and saying "These guys are mean". Apparently that is sexist according to him.
Now, I have a great memory for editorial cartoons and I am a member of the American Association of Editorial Cartoons (AAEC) so I know a few of these people personally.
This cartoon came from the first debate in January and Clinton was stating something on the level that she was the only female in the group and that these guys were being mean to her. Oliphant took that paraphrased quote and showed that these guys who were being tough on her, the expected nominee, that the reality of the office of president is much worse.
So, too, was the inability of many alleged progressives to see that the news media created the narrative of Hillary Clinton as race-baiter ....by assembling a montage of quotes taken out of context and willfully misinterpreted.
This whole story shouldn’t affect peoples’ votes in the general election: there are huge substantive issues at stake, and a wide difference between the candidates on those issues. So this is no time for a protest vote. But 2008 was definitely the year in which the progressive movement lost a lot of its innocence.
He goes on to state this. How is it that progressives lost this issue? I strongly disagree on a personal level that sexism was ever an issue and I think that as a progressive we were choosing someone who was closer to our ideals. Many of Clinton's media problems were her own creation, and the baiting calls like "Shame on you Barack Obama" did not help the situation.
On June 11, he dropped into the issue of Jason Furman.
Maybe I’m wrong, but my sense is that Jason Furman has become a proxy target for some Obama supporters who, now that the Great Satanness has been defeated, are suddenly starting to have the queasy feeling that their hero might be a bit of a .... centrist. I’m tempted to say I told you so; in fact, I guess I just did. But that’s all in the past now.
SEXIST!!!! He called Clinton the Satanness!
Seriously though, we are seeing a once respected man go the way of Hillary is 44, and think that Obama is an empty suit that cannot do the task given to him.
He is smarmy and arrogant, something I have noted for a while and have been willing to keep quiet for a while about. But now is the time to let it be known that thsi kind of conversation is over.
We do not like it that Kristol, a known egoist and demagouge, is a part of their editorial staff, and I think the same should be for Krugman. If he wants to talk about economic issues keep it to the Business section or have a column made by different people as they usual do about different subjects.
