A new running group for Obama fans who live in New York or will be running the 2008 ING New York City Marathon.
Ok, so the New York City Marathon, sponsored by ING, will be held November 2, 2008. The Presidential Election, sponsored by Cindy McCain, lobbyists & oil companies on the one hand and the American people on the other, will be held 2 days later. So in an attempt at multi-tasking I figured it would be a good idea to combine two of my many non-paying, time-consuming obsessions into one. Hence this group was born:

I invite any Obama supporters who happen to be runners to join by clicking the above link. We will actually meet and train together in New York's Central Park, with a program designed for performing well at the marathon this fall. (First meeting Tuesday July 8th).
I also encourage people from around the country who will be making the trip to the city for the big race to join the group, we will be exchanging training tips and specifics about the race on the online site. I have run New York the last 4 years with a best time of 3:26:17, and there will be others in the group who are fairly knowledgeable about the course and marathons in general as well.
We will probably get together for activities when we're not running such as voter registration drives, fundraising parties (beer is an important part of the carbo-loading process), and other events.
And the main reason for doing all this is we are going to have running shirts (that haven't been designed as of yet), with the ultimate goal of getting as many people as we can wearing them at the race, seeing as it is going to be on TV and everything just 2 days before election day.
The New York City Marathon is the world's largest spectator sport, with millions of fans from all over the country lining the streets of all five boroughs of New York to watch, not to mention 40,000 participants from all over the world. So let's try and get enough of us out there to make some news and save Barack some money on TV commercials this November.
