A new poll from Public Policy Polling confirms the finding in a Rasmussen poll two days ago :
Barack Obama leads John McCain in the presidential race in Virginia.
This is HUGELY important news for Obama. Once again, in a key battleground state Obama has gained substantial ground on McCain. The PPP poll shows a 47-45 lead for Obama with only 8% undecided. Barack Obama continues to widen the field that McCain's badly stretched campaign needs to defend.
Interestingly, while the poll showed that there was considerable interest among Virginians in Mark Warner as a VP candidate (with 18% more likely vote for Obama versus 9% less), there was comparatively little interest in Jim Webb (with 12% more likely and 12% less likely). It seems that talk of Webb-for-Veep may subside somewhat on this basis; he may not help Obama substantially in Virginia, and Obama as it turns out may not need Webb's help anyway except as a campaigner.
