This diary is bound to be like so many more, so please forgive me.

Then this week we will live to see for the first time in our Nation's history someone other than a Male of completely European origin obtain the nomination for President of the United States from the oldest political party on the planet. It is a moment to savor, honor, and rejoice.
However the General Election may go, this moment has no equivalent in our History. As such, it is a political risk. But it is a risk worth taking.
At no time I can recall has this Nation been more inclined to choose the pragmatism and idealism that Barack Obama represents. Inclined enough, perhaps, to overcome the deep seeded distrust many Americans have harbored for the Other over the centuries.
Regardless of the outcome, we should now see clearly what this Man from Illinois has accomplished. How he has done so with aplomb, passion, and honesty. I am confident that as Obama's extraordinary journey moves forward all of us who call ourselves Democrats will proudly support his candidacy, if for no other reason than the fundamental act of progress that it fully represents.
In November, God willing, may bring even more excitement and satisfaction. Regardless, this week is a milestone that we are lucky to have this chance to see.
