This is a short diary. I just want to be sure that credit is given where credit is due. Today Congressman Tim Johnson (R IL 15) was the sole GOP member to vote against the odious FISA bill.
I am in the 15th, and had called Johnson's local and DC offices before the vote. All staffers listened politely and appeared to take real interest. For whatever reason Johnson bucked his party and did the right thing.
This is not the first time he has voted aginst the Bush GOP and for civil liberties. Last year he was one of only two GOP Reps to vote the right way on one of the outrageous Bill-of-Rights-busting bills (I have to admit I have outrage fatigue and I can't keep them straight in my head after all this time).
Anyway, I know the mission of this website and all. Johnson is not my best buddy, but today he represented me, and the Constitution, and the rule of law. I encourage at least all Kossacks in the 15th to give him a shout-out. It'll be a while before we have a Dem Rep here, and in the meantime we should cover Tim Johnson's back on this vote.
