I'm sorry, but there are some things too important to compromise on.
Listen, I've been a strong supporter of Obama since 2007. I put up with his support of Dick Cheney's energy bill, and I saw him through his ill-conceived early support of ethanol. He's mixed politics and religion more than I'd like, but I can deal with that if it means putting the war-mongers out on the street. I'm not a "purist"--but Obama has now crossed a line.
Today I discovered that Barack Obama eats meat.
I know there are a lot of veggie-bashers on the site, but you have to understand that for me this is a vital moral issue. I don't like animals much, but they're living, thinking, feeling creatures, and we kill them in the billions every year totally unnecessarily. And the result is that not only do the animals suffer, but that the planet suffers, thanks to our totally inefficient use of resources. We could feed millions of people if we'd just stop feeding ourselves meat first.
This is one of the most important moral issues of my life, and Obama has totally let me down.
I'm not saying I'll vote for McCain--that would be stupid. I'm just saying that I'm willing to stand back and let McCain be elected because of how upset I am. Isn't Obama supposed to be a progressive? Isn't he supposed to be a leader? Isn't he supposed to be out there fighting for the change that I want him to fight for?
I'm sorry, but a change to US policy on the war, healthcare, the environment, energy, education, taxation, sexual health, and the fight against terrorism just isn't enough for me anymore. I need him to have my back on this.
I can only hope that Obama agrees with my views on the Death Penalty, too, because I don't know if I can take another shock like this.
...wait, you mean... he supports... what?!
That's it, I'm voting third party.
