Today's been a pretty serious day, what with the FISA bill in Congress and all. We're all looking to Obama to see what he will do, and I think some of us are looking inside ourselves to understand what kind of politician we were expecting and what kind of politician Barack is going to be.
That being said, I thought you guys could use a laugh today.
I hopped on my Facebook account this afternoon when I noticed that John McCain had sent out a rare "update" to his supporters. (I became a John McCain "supporter" to track his doings on Facebook and to occasionally get into CAPS LOCK shouting matches with his real supporters, when I'm feeling argumentative.)
The title of his latest update puzzled me.
"New McCain Video Game: Pork Invaders"
The title struck me as inappropriate and borderline pornographic, and I immediately began to conjure images in my brain that I won't soon be able to forget. However, morbid curiosity took hold of me and I installed the application and, mercifully, the game turned out to be nothing more than a cheap Space Invaders knockoff.
As you can see, you play as a generic John McCain logo and shoot VETOES at the PORK. Your score is calculated in dollars saved (in millions), presumably from voting against spending it on reinforcing infrastructure like the kind that failed recently in the midwest and caused billions of dollars in flood damage.
I think it's amusing that McCain's campaign is so out of touch with America's politically active youth that it uses its Facebook contacts to come up with lazily developed games in order to drive home some abstract point. Obama's campaign, on the other hand, routinely updates its 1 million+ Facebook supporters on important campaign developments like his speeches, endorsements, and local campaign events.
Just for the record, as of right now, Barack Obama has 1,020,000+ supporters on Facebook.
John McCain has roughly 150,000; and from what I can tell from perusing their message boards, half of them are probably trolls like myself.
Also: Space Invaders? Really? That game hasn't been popular since 1981. How's that for seeming out old and out of date? Although he could have gone with PAC-Man, or should I say Lobbyist-Man. Zing!
