I'm just standig back and watching this mess onfold over the FISA bill. While I'm not too worried about it affecting my vote, I am worried about it affecting others. And, if there is one this this campaign has taught me, it's to take action.
So I called the campaign headquarters...
The number for the headquarters is on the website. I decided that I would call to see what the staff on the campaign, and hopefully what the Senator himself, had thought and planned.
Oh, yeah, they've been getting calls about it all day. I'm pretty sure it was probably some of you out there. Those of you who find that your privacy is being violated. I can understand the outrage, but
I also disagree with some of it. If the United States Military Academy does anything, it makes you miss whatever privacy you lost. But that's only for the first few months.
Anyway, the call was simple. I told them that a lot of people seemed upset by this. They said they knew. They've heard it all day. So I asked is there are any plans to rid the people of this unnecessary outrage.
What they said took a small bit of weight off. Apparently, the Senator had filed an amendment to remove the immunity portion with Sen Dodd. In fact, there is supposed to be a whole amendment process at the end of the week. The possibility of a filibuster is still there, but I hope none of you expect Obama to be doing this. He has a campaign to participate in. You know, places to go, people to see... things like that.
I really thought we all had something special going on here. I thought that since we believed in a lot of the same things, we could be best buds. Hanging out all the time, going out for Silly Season alcoholic beverages, and changing this portion of the world.
So, before you jump the gun, I emplore you to think through this. Before you decide not to donate, or to donate to another candidate, please remember what you came here for. Try to wait and see what happens. If you're still upset when it's all done, that's your choice. But it was a close fundraising month, as I'm sure you've heard. Please, wait for the amendments to the bill to be made.

"I decided to place the safety and security of my children and grandchildren in Barack Obama's hands. I have to trust him to make the decisions he thinks are best-I doubt he's ever gonna call me for advice."

"What would I have him do? I'd have him god-damn lead. ANd I'd have him stop issuing statements which treat some of his most ardent supporters -- that would be us -- like we are idiots."

"You see, I actually do believe in Sen Obama. He has proven to me time and time again that his judgment on matters has been better than mine. There are some fights you can win all the way and some you have to compromise on. I still maintain a healthy dose of skepticism. But Sen. Obama is the best and brightest hope this country has seen in a long long time. I'm willing to go with him on this one. Forcing him to filibuster is a bad idea in my eyes. I did not sign that petition from move on. And one last thing. I don't ever expect any candidate, ever, to believe the same as I do, on every last thing. There is often more than one route to the same end."

"Let's just say his tepid response did nothing to either inspire or reassure me that he'll do the right thing. If he does, I'll be a happy camper and give him some more money. But I'm not holding my breath."
