UPDATE: Jindal makes the national news.
Our "wonder boy" governor and potential McCain running mate, Bobby Jindal, is having a difficult time. The Republicans trashed Kathleen Blanco after Katrina and Rita to the point where she couldn't regain her footing.
Now Bobby Jindal is finding out it feels to anger the electorate.
The Louisiana Legislature gave itself a pay raise, more doubling members' base salary from a base of $16,800 to $37,500. Jindal proposed and the Legislature raised public school teacher salaries about 2% or about $1000.
Voters are not happy. And Jindal refuses to veto this extremely unpopular bill.
A local state sentator, Joe McPherson opined,
as to the governor's pledge to "tighten the reins," McPherson said "It's hard to tighten the reins when you're sitting on your butt on the ground holding the bridle and the horse is gone, kicking dust in your face."
Sitting on his butt. Ouch! No politician wants to be seen as sitting around doing nothing, let alone getting dust in the face.
