The inspiration for this quick diary comes from the LA Time Blog post here, where John McCain is quoted from a fundraiser last night:
"My friends," he said, "this is a tough race. We are behind. We are the underdog."
And then he uttered another truth that McCain's competitors ignore at their peril, "That's what I like to be."
It's definitely true too. The unfortunate part of Obama being ahead in polls, voter-enthusiasm, and fundraising is that McCain becomes the underdog and gets more of an opportunity to portray himself as a fighter and maverick. Though this won't help McCain enough to win him the presidency, is there anything we can do to fight this archetype? Or should we just let it play out and challenge his candidacy in other ways (like actual political issues)?
