to never trust what a politician says again. I know, I know – I should have known better right from the start. I shouldn’t have fallen for the "change" bs that every freaking politician has trotted out since pre-history. But I did. I was fooled.
I guess it may have been because Barack Obama seemed so different. Multi-cultural, eloquent (or so he seems after eight years of Bush chortling and smirking into microphones), young. I wanted to believe in the dream. I wanted to believe in Obama.
But these past weeks have brought me crashing down to reality. Now I’m looking at an empty suit, owned by powerful lobbies and corporate interests, and all the more dangerous because of his camouflage.
We’re stuck with Obama as our nominee, and I’m not sure how much influence we can have over minimizing his sellouts. Obama ignored the Netroots from the start of his campaign, so don’t expect him to suddenly listen to us now. But we can try. We can try to hold him to his promises – the promises that duped so many of us to work for his election and to get him elected the nominee.
