This started out as a comment... But I felt it is too important, and I needed to say it somewhere more visible.
So here I go.
We need to do everything we can to make sure Obama is the next President.
The past two weeks there has been a tremendous amount of criticism from us here at Kos of Barack Obama.
We need to stop giving Republicans ammunition. Now is not the time to criticize Obama...
If you don't think his stance on FISA is strong enough, If you don't think his stance on civil-unions is strong enough, If you don't like what he has said about clean coal or ethanol, If you don't like the color of his suit...
Now is not the time.
The options are McCain or Obama period.
And the minor flaws that Obama may have are so miniscule in comparison to the "Disaster" that has been Bush and we will have with McCain.
So suck it up kids... The Republicans have plenty of criticism of Obama. We need to put all our energy into the positives of President Obama. Then we can criticize him after November 4th.
There was this explosive article by Seymour Hersh today. These kind of practices will continue under McCain... and you can bet your bottom dollar on that.
Going forward the Bush Administration is going to do everything it can to ramp up a possible attack on Iran.
We progressives and doves may not like some of the strong talk we may hear from Obama between now and November. The fractured Republican party is beginning to unite strongly behind McCain where virtually everything he says is Gospel and they are falling in line even touting the times he has stood against the GOP as a sign of strong leadership.
We don't have to agree with every word or position Obama takes. But every negative thing we do say will be echoed. If you don't believe that Republican operatives aren't looking for things (on Daily Kos and elsewhere) to drive wedges between Obama, his base, independents, disaffected Republicans and Democrats... You are kidding yourself.
Going forward the attacks on Obama are going to get worse. The GOP will use every dirty trick in the book. Obama is currently ahead in the polls, but it's close and can change in McCain's favor.
So call your Senators and Congressmen/women and tell them where you stand on upcoming legislation. Write your opinions on issues. Unless you want to see John S. McCain as the 44th President of the United States-- Think about the ramifications of your judgement of Barack Obama.
Now is NOT the time.
Otherwise we'll be dealing with President McCain... If that happens-- God help us all.
